Rowland Yowell Will - 1858 - Madison Co. Will of Rowland Yowell, from Madison Co., VA, County Court Records, v. 11, p. 568: In the name of God Amen, I, Rowland Yowell of the County of Madison & State of Virginia, being sick and weak in body but of sound mind & disposing memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life, & being desirous to dispose of each property as it has pleased God to bless me with, do hereby make my will in manner & forn following. After the payment of all my just debts & funeral expenses, I wish the sum of two thousand dollars ($2000) to be placed as interest by my Executors hereafter named for the support of my beloved wife Sally Yowell--the *interest* of which is to be paid to her *annually* for her support, she having agreed to take this same instead of one third of my estate to have and to enjoy the aforesaid interest arising from the aforesaid sum of two thousand dollars, for and during her natural life. I wish the balance of my estate to be divided amongst my following named children, to wit, Margaret Ann Corben, James M. Yowell, Edna H. Weakley, Franklin S. Yowell, Rowland G. Yowell & Sally Smith, but the part of Sally Smith I will into the hands of A. H. Simms as trustee for her benefit, and said Simms is to pay the *interest* which may accrue on his interest in my estate annually *to her & for and benefit exclusively* & should said Simms as trustee as aforesaid think that the interest accruing in his portion of my estate will not be enough to enable her to support herself & children (with their own labour included), then said Simms as trustee as aforesaid may let her have such part of the principal in his hands as he may think absolutely necessary towards her support, & at the death of my said daughter Sally Smith should there be any money in the hands of said Simms as trustee not applied toward her support, the same must be equally divided among her children. My son Franklin S. Yowell must be made to account out of his part of my estate for three hundred and twenty dollars ($320) which sum he has had from me over & above what I have advanced to my other children. I wish the whole of my estate real & personal to be sold & the money when collected to be applied as above and before stated. At the death of my wife Sally Yowell the two thousand dollars placed as interest for her support is to be equally divided among my aforesaid children, A. H. Simms as trustee for Sally Smith's benefit, taking his part of the same & to be by him applied to her support as above & before stated. The interest on the two thousand dollars left for my wife's support is to commence from the time of my death. I hereby constitute & appoint my son James M. Yowell & my son in law Wesley Weakley Executors of this, my last will and testament.
