Gregory, 83, nee Agnes Jane Blanton, member of one of the first families to make their home in Benton County, passed away at the family home in the Spring Grove neighborhood on January 24, 1932. It seems coincidental that Mrs. Gregory's passing should take place just a century after the establishing of the Blanton family here, for it was in 1832 that George W. and Elsie Blanton of Kentucky made their home on the banks of the Little Tebo. Later they moved to a farm on which New Hope Church now stands, and it was there on January 7, 1849, that Mrs. Gregory was born. November 8, 1868, she was united in marriage to Flavious J. Gregory. The Reverend James Briggs officiated at the ceremony. To this union were born the following children: E. A. Gregory, Gerster; Stella Gregory (deceased); Josephus Gregory (deceased); Mrs. Mallie Nash, Michigan; George Gregory, Miamia, Mo.; Jack Gregory of Windsor and Vic Gregory of Warsaw. Besides these children she is survived by twenty grand-children and seven great grand-children; one brother G. W. Blanton of Sayre, Oklahoma, and a number of relatives and friends. Mrs. Gregory became a Christian and united with the Baptist Church in early life. At the close of the Civil War she became a member of the reorganized Spring Grove Baptist Church of which she remained a faithful and devoted member. With her passing the church loses its last charter member. Funeral services were held at Spring Grove Church on Tuesday, January 26, with the Reverend William Briggs, son of the minister who performed her wedding ceremony, officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. The following listed pallbearers were her grandsons: Perry Gregory, Paul Gregory, Earl Gregory, Blanton Gregory, Stanley Gregory and Robin Gregory. OBITUARY F. J. Gregory was born March 24, 1842, and departed from this life February 19, 1925, age 82 years, 10 months and 25 days. He was married to Agnes Jane Blanton on November 8, 1868, and to this union were born seven children, of which five survive. A. E. Gregory of Windsor, Mollie E. Nash of Sweet Springs, George D. Gregory of Windsor, Jack Gregory of Windsor, and V. H. Gregory of Warsaw. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild. The deceased was reared and spent his entire life and passed away on part of the old Gregory homestead. Although he never united with any church he stated at several times that he had hope in Christ In F. J. Gregory's passing away, I lose one of the most faithful friends and neighbors that a man ever had. One more of the old pioneer stock has gone to his reward. I have been closely associated with him for more than fifty years and I shall miss him. Such men are the cause of Missouri's greatness. His neighbors loved him, you could always depend on him. Every one called him Uncle Buddy. He was unassuming, but solid as the Rock of Gibraltar, and to know him was to [illegible word] him. He is gone but can never be forgotten. There is a vacancy in the old neighborhood, camping places and the homes and hearts of the dear old country that cannot be filled by another, for there are few his equal as a man, a neighbor and a friend. B. J. Minter ==================================== Corroborating the death of Mary Ann (Pettus) Gregory's mother, who was Susannah (Neal) Pettus, is an accompanying letter. The letter to Mary Ann Gregory, in part: Williamson County, Tenn January the 8th 1861 Dear friend It is with pain that I inform you of the death of your mother. She was taken down in the Christmas seemed to be in a stupid condition- complained of no pain not sick in the least and on the morning of the 7th Inst about 3 oclock she expired without a struggle or a groan seemed to go off like a child going asleep...
