Barnes Cemetery Location: South of Boydton, Virginia 5 miles, east side of tar road that leads south from Boydton, about 100 yards. Mecklenburg County, Virginia DATE: Prior to 1821. OWNERS: The Farrier family sold to Venable Crute, who willed it to his son James Venable Crute, who in turn left by will to his son James E. Crute. DESCRIPTION: This cemetery is well kept and enclosed by a wire fence. There are many graves that have been here for more than a century, yet only one has a marker. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This cemetery was started by the Farrier family, who settled near Boydton very early and built up quite extensively near Boydton and later sold to Mr. Venable Crute. The inscription on the tombstone is as follows: In memory of Elizabeth H.
