Will of Elizabeth Cheatham; Mecklenburg County, VA Will Book 4, pages 
170-171.

In the Name of God Amen. I Elizabeth Cheatham of the County of Mecklenburg 
and parish of Saint James in the State of Virginia being of sound sense and 
memory but weak in body and knowing the uncertainty of death do make ordain 
constitute and ratify this as my last will and testament in manner and form 
following, to wit, I resign my body to the earth and my soul to God who gave 
me an existance hoping that he will give me a seat in those regions prepared 
for Eternal hapiness [sic]. I Devise my worldly estate as follows. - Imprimis 
I give and bequeath unto Samuel Dawson my son one Shilling to him and his 
heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Leonard Cheatham one 
Shilling to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my 
Daughter Elizabeth Wilson one Shilling to her and her heirs forever. Item I 
give and bequeath unto my son Edward Cheatham one Shilling to him and his 
heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son James 
Cheatham's heirs one Shilling to them & their heirs forever. Item I give and 
bequeath unto my daughter Nancy Bouldin one Shilling to her and her heirs 
forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Abraham Cheatham one Shilling 
to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto Grand daughter 
Patsy Cheatham my bay horse a Saddle and bridle and Cow & Calf one feather 
Bed bedstead and furniture her choice and my Trunk to her and her heirs 
forever. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Tabitha Wilson my Chest of 
Drawers and base to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto 
my Grand Son James Wilson my young bay mare to him and his heirs forever. 
Item It is my will and desire that my herin after named executor do make Sale 
of my Stock of horses Cattle hogs and Sheep not already devised my Crop of 
corn and tobacco and all my other property not already devised and after 
paying all my Just debts funeral expenses &c. if their [sic] Should be money 
enough left I devise he Should purchase a negroe girl which I desire may be 
given to my Daughter Phebe Clay during her natural life and after her decese 
[sic] to be Sold and the money divided among her Children but if their [sic] 
Should not be money enough to purchase a negroe I devise my Daughter Phebe 
Clay may have the money at times when She is most in need and when my 
executor Shall See cause lastly [new page]
Lastly I nominate and appoint my grand Son James Wilson executor to this my 
last will and Testament revoking all other will or wills by me heretofore 
made In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affix my Seal this 
16th day of February 1799.

This will was proved by the oaths of Thomas A Reamy and James Leagon 
Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of James 
Wilson the Executor therein named who made oath thereto  &  together with
