Wills: William Fox , 1783, Mecklinburg County Virginia. "In the name of God, Amen, I William Fox of the County of Mecklenburg County and State of Virginia being sick and weak of body but of sound and perfect Sence and Memory blessed be Almighty God for the same and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say first and principally I recommend my soul to Almighty God the giver thereof in full hopes of my Resurrection through the Merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour and my body to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as for what worldly Estate it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose in manner and form following. Item: I give and devise to my son Arthur Fox my Bay colt called Liberty and my Sorell Filley to him and his Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my son Richard Fox my Filley named Betty fine and my Pocotate Filley to him and his Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my son William Fox my great bay mare and her future increse to him and his Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my son Henry Fox my Sorell Colt to him and his Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my daughter Mary Kendrick Fox one Good Feather bed and Furniture to her and her Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my son Benjamin Fox twenty pounds specie to him and his Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my daughter Sally Jones Fox one good Feather bed and Furniture to her and her Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my daughter Johanna Fox one good Feather bed and Furniture to her and her Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my daughter Priscilla Fox one good Feather bed and Furniture to her and her Heirs forever. Item: I give and devise to my daughter Betsey Fox one good Feather bed and Furniture to her and her Heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Fox the use of my plantation and land also the use of Jack, Sucka, and Chainey and all the rest of my estate both real and personal during her life except she marries and in case she marries then for her to have only her thirds and my desire and will is that after my wifes death except as aforesaid all that part that I give my wife the use of during her life to be equally divided amongst my Surviving children. My will and desire further is that if any of my Surviving children should die before they come of age or without Lawful Issue that his or their part to be equally divided amongst all my surviving children and lastly my desire and will is that my beloved wife Mary Fox and my Friend John Kindrick be my soul Executors of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking and Disannuling all other former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made and Declaring this and this only to by my last as witness my hand and seal this 4th day of September in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Three.
