(1) Present -- Sr Henry Chicheley, Knt, Ralph Wormeley, Esq., Mr Richard Parrott, senr, Capt Walter Whitaker, Coll Christopher Wormeley, Majr Robert Beverly, Mr Abraham Weekes, Mr Richard Robinson, Mr John Vaus, Mr Richard Parrott, Junr, Mr Wm Dudley. Ordered that all persons, That have in there Possessions any cloathes belonging to any souldier or souldiers now lately raised in this county for ye countryes service, Doe imediately Deliver the said cloathes to ye partyes they belong to, as they will answer ye countrary at there utmost perill. __________________________________________________ (1) After Sir William Berkeley consented to commission Nathaniel Bacon as general in June, 1676, the General Assembly passed an act to carry on the war with the Indians, proportioning the men and provisions among the counties. Middlesex was required to furnish thirty-six men. The whole number was to be a thousand. All the counties proceeded to comply with these demands, but Berkeley plunged the country into civil war by rescinding Bacon's commission and proclaiming him a rebel. ---------- 180 WILLIAM AND MARY COLLEGE QUARTERLY. Ordered, That ye Provisions enjoyned by Law to bee provided for ye Soldiers now raised according to Law in this county, be pro- vided as followeth, vizt., for ye first two moneths: Bread by major Robert Beverely at 2lb p. b., Bacon or cheese by Ditto at ffive ound of Tobaccoe p. pound; Leaden Shott at 3lb p. pound; Steares six yeare old at least, at 600lb Tobaccoe apeice, One Bagateere horse to be furnished by Coll. Wormeley; One Bagateere horse to be furnished by Mr. Richd Robinson. Test: CHR: ROBINSON, Cl. Cur. Att a court held for ye county of Middx, by vertue of a late Act of Assembly the 22d Day of August, 1676. Whereas This county are comanded by a late Act of Assembly to Sett forth Thirty-six Soldiers wth Ammunicon, and two moneths' Provisions, at there first goeing forth, And whereas there is a ---------- 181 Considerable quantity of Bread wanting wch is forthwith to be pro- vided and made ready, it is therefore by this court Ordered, That the quantity of three pounds of good welorded biscuitt (to be made of at least 1/2 English wheate) Be made & provided by each master of a ffamaly for every Tythable person in his or there houses within this county, And that they Deliver the same at ye court- house of this county by ye last day of this prsent August at ye furthest. Mr Abraham Weekes, It is this Day Ordered that 250lb of good bisquitt, to bee made at least of one-half wheat meal, be forthwth made (vizt), ffifty pounds by Mr Richard Robinson, ffifty pounds by Christopher Robinson, and ffifty pounds apiece by Mr Alexander Smith, Mr William Gordon, & Mr John Batchellor, and that the same be De- livered at ye home of Mr Richd Robinson by ye 29th Day of this instant, January, at furthese, it being for the use of this countye's soldiers now goeing out agt ye Indians, for weh they have ye Coun- tye's creditt; and it is further Ordered that Mr Christopher Rob- inson provide six Barrells of Indian corn for ye use of ye soldiers, for weh he is also to have ye Countye's Creditt. _____________________
