Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ************************************************************************ Will of William Carter, Middlesex County, Virginia, 1711 [Note: transcription is poor due to condition of document on microfilm in the Library of Virginia] November 16th 1709 In the name of God Amen I William Carter of the County of Middlesx being Sick of body but of Sound and perfect Mind and Memory thanks and praise be given to Almighty God for the same do make and Ordaine this my present Last will & testament in Manner and forming as followeth First I Comend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hopeing through the _______ and passion of my Savior Jesus Christ the have free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and find everlasting life and my body I comitt to the Earth to be burryed at discretion of my Executrix hereafter named and at ____ the Disposition of all ___________ the estate as hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon ____ give and Dispose thereof as followeth --- First I will that my debts and funerall charges be paid and discharged --- Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Thomas Carter One Shilling --- Item I give and bequeath unto my Son William Carter part of my Divident of Land beginning at Thomas Hedgecombes Line upon the Rowling ___ thence bounding upon the said Hedgecombes Line by Line of Rice Jones thence bounding upon the Line of Said Rice Jones to my Spring branch thence up the said branch to my Spring that ___ to him and his heirs forever --- Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary (Hughes?) Twenty Shilling --- Item I give and bequeath unto my Loving wife Mary Carter all the rest and residue of personall estate During her Naturall life and after her Deces to be Equally divided amongst her Children born of her body Item I give and bequeath unto my two Sons George Carter and Phillip Carter all the remaining part of my Divident of Land together with my plantation with all appurtenances thereunto belonging and appertaining to be Equally Divided between them to them and their heires forever and I do hereby constytued and appoynt my Loving wife Mary Carter my full and Sole Executrix of this my Last will and Testament as Witness my hand and Seal the day and year above written--- Signed Sealed and pronounced to be William Carter (Seal) his Last will & Testament in presence of us --- At a Court held for Middlesex County the Wm Jones [5?]th day of February 1711 Henry Goodlow This will was this day proved in Court by the Oath of Henry Goodlow and Jacob Person the his two [Swearing?] Witnesses to it and Admitted to George x Goodly record Test Wil Stanard ClCou marke Jacob JP Person his marke Truly recorded Test R Hickinson (DClCou)
