Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Braxdon Bird land I purchased of Thomas Bradford adjoining his land in Kings & Queen County, also the following Negroes to wit: Martin, Caesar, Will son of Daphney, Moll, Buck and Sue with their future increase together with all the stocks of horses, cattles and hoggs belonging to me in the said county, also two feather beds and furniture and six leather chairs. I lend to my beloved daughter Frances Eastham wife of Wm. Eastham of Culpepper County Gent. the Negroes Sarah, Adam, Wappin, John, Patt and her daughter Grace and Lucy and her daughter Christian to her sole use for and during her natural life and without being liable for the debts of her husband; and at her death I give the said Negroes with their future increase to be equally divided among her then surviving children and their heirs for ever. I give to my granddaughter Hannah Eastham the Negro girl Lucy (daughter of Charlotte) and her future increase. I give to my beloved son George Bird land I purchased of Samuel Smith adjoining his land at Borslers? Ferry with all the stocks horses, cattle, sheep and hogs belonging thereto, also all the stocks of horses, cattle, sheep and hogs (excepting four heifers) belonging to the Plantation whereon I now live, together with the following Negroes, to wit, Cato, Natt, Samson, Sam, Osmond, Newman, Mencer and Caesar, sons of Daphne, Charlotte and her children Reubin, Rachel, Bacchus and Delphia, Sally and her son Samson, Jemmy son of Judith, Lucy at ? and her son James, Bembo and her son Armstead, and old Judy with their future increase of the said female slaves; also all my silver plates of every kind. I give unto my grand daughter Catherine Bird Negroes Betty daughter of Charlotte and Dick son of (blank) with their future increase of the said Betty, also four heifers from the Plantation whereon I now live. I also give to my grand daughter Hannah Bird the Negro girl Nanny daughter of Charlotte and her future increase. I give to Caroline Latham wife of Thomas Latham of Culpepper County a mourning ring the value of twenty shillings sterling. The remainder of my estate be it of what nature or kind I give it to be equally divided between my sons Braxton and George Bird and their heirs forever, by whom I devise all my just debts may be paid. Lastly I appoint my aforesaid two sons Braxton and George Bird Executors of this my will hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eight day of August Anno Domini 1771. Witnesses: Robert Spratt and Francis Gardner Codicil: As some alterations in my affairs since my making of the foregoing Will having made the addition of a codicil necessary I do hereby declare that my grand daughter Polly Bird daughter of Braxton Bird shall have the Negro child Lydia born since making the foregoing Will, of the wench Charlotte before given to my son George Bird. Item I give to my son George Bird the Negro girl Nanny (daughter of Charlotte) before given to my grand daughter Hannah Bird who is now dead to him the said George Bird. The Negros Natt & Cato before given to my son George Bird having been run away for some time and it being doubtful whither they will ever be recovered or not, it is my will and desire and accordingly give to my said son George Bird, if it should so happen that the said two slaves should ever be recovered to the use of said George Bird, the Negros Caesar before given to my son Braxton Bird and the Negro Adam before lent to my daughter Frances Eastham. Lastly it is my will that the four heifers given to my grand daughter Catherine Bird out of the stock on the Plantation whereon I now live should be and remain together with the rest of the stock to and for the use of my son George Bird.
