State or Continental unit during the Revolutionary War. In July of 1786, he personally requested that his land warrant be issued; the request was "notarized" by a Justice of the court in the first VA county to be named Fayette, which was in the "western reserves" of the district called Kentucky. The amount of land he could be entitled to depended on his rank while in service, which was the rank of Corporal. This claim seems likely to have been honored, but as portions of these documents are faded and/or illegible, it is difficult to determine the final disposition of this case. ***** This Corporal Joseph Brady may be the same as mentioned in the Revolutionary War Bounty Warrant records, 1823, of a Sergeant Joseph Braday (Brady), which records can be seen at the Library of Virginia Digital Collections: Revolutionary War Bounty Warrants, Catalog Card: Brabstoe Index, Card #20 of 52, pp. 1-4. In those records, the heirs of a Joseph Brady, Sergeant in the Army, were applying for land based on their ancestor's service in the Revolutionary War. One of the documents in that case states that 200 acres were issued on March 28th, 1787 to a "... Corporal Joseph Brady ... in Consideration of his services for 3 years..." in the "...Virginia Continental Line...", and that "the present applicants cannot at this time [1823] ascertain whether he was their ancester..." The location of the acreage was not noted. ****************************************************************************** Library of Virginia Digital Collections: Revolutionary War Bounty Warrants Catalog Card: Brabstoe Index, Card #19 of 52, pp. 1-3 ================================================================ [INDEX CARD:] Brady, Joseph, - Corporal - Army.
