Hardy County Hardy County February Court 1787 It is ordered that William Broughton be recommended to be continued as a pensioner, being aged and under a ____ And appearing to the Court that he is not able of doing Any thing, Scarcely for his support. A Copy Edward William CHC I do hereby certify that the within William Broughton, late a serjeant major of the 11th Virginia Regt, was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine which rendered him after ___ ___ ___ unfit for duty. James Wood he is about 52 years of age and lives in Hardy County I do, with the advice of council, hereby certify that William Broughton aged about 52 years of age, late a serjeant major in the 12th Virginia Regiment whose pay was at the rate of 36 pounds per annum was disabled in the service of The United States by wounds received at the Battle of Brandywine by a bayonet which passed thru the fleshy part of his arm and fractured the thorax, and he is allowed the sum of twelve pounds yearly; which allowance accordingly made him, to commence on the first day of January 1786.
