**Certificate by William Lewis that John Minton, a private in the Continental 
line, died in the Battle at Charles Town.


  I do with the advice of Council herby certify that Mary Minton, widow of John 
Minton late a private of the 1st Virginia Regiment  who died in the service of 
the United States is allowed the sum of 5 pounds yearly to commence from the 1st 
day of January l788. Given under my hand as Governor of the Commonwealth of 
Virginia, at Richmond, this 8th day of March 1789.
