Downing/Darter Deed, 1781 John and Andrew Downing of Lincoln County, VA to Nicholas Darter of Montgomery County, 248 acres, 7 September 1781, Montgomery County, VA, Deed Book A:263. THIS INDENTURE made the Seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Eighty one Between John Downing and Andrew Downing of the County of Lincoln and State of Virginia of the one part and Nicholas Darter of the County of Montgomery of the other part WITTNESSETH that the sd John Downing and Andrew Downing for and in Consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by Nicholas Darter do give grant convey and sell to the sd Nicholas Darter and his heirs or assigns one parcel of Land containing two hundred and forty eight Acres, and bounded as follows. Beginning at a double maple by the Creek on the East side of the same and running thence No 76 degrees East 182 poles to a red Oak and three white oaks thence No 5 degrees West 182 poles to two white oaks on the East of the draft and South 69 degrees West 313 poles to two to two white oaks by a draft thence No 49 degrees West 170 poles to the Beginning Together with all its appurtenances to the sd Nicholas Darter his heirs assigns to the sole use and behoof of the sd Nicholas Darter and his heirs and the sd John Downing and Andrew Downing for themselves and heirs the sd parcel of Land with the appurtenances the sd Nicholas Darter will warrant and defend in Witness the sd John Downing and Andrew Downing hath set their names and affixed their seals the day and year above written.
