Harding/Breeding Indenture, 1789 This Indenture made this fifth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine, between Henry Harding and Rebeckah Harding, his wife of the County of Montgomery, & State of Virginia of the one part, and James Breeding of the county & state aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred pounds current money of aforesaid, to them in hand paid, do give, grant, bargain and sell to the said James Breeding and his heirs, one parcel of land containing Three hundred acres be the same, more or less, lying and being in the county and state aforesaid on Little Reed Island, a branch of New River and bounded as followeth to wit: Beginning at a sycamore tree on the West bank of Little Reed Island, a corner of Richard Ellis', and running thence up a valley along a line of marked trees made by mutual consent of Henry Harding and said Richard Ellis to Fugate's line, now James Calfee's, thence with his, turning to the left, to Whitlock's line, thence with Whitlock's line to two white oaks on the top of a hill, thence leaving Whitlock's line, running South sixty degrees East one hundred and forty-four poles, crossing Little Reed Island to a white oak and dogwood sapling, thence North twenty-five degrees, East one hundred & fifty-six poles to two oaks on a hillside, thence North forty-two degrees, East to the aforesaid Little Reed Island Creek, thence up the same crossing over the said creek to the beginning. Together with all its appurtenances to the said James Breeding and his heirs to the sole use and behoof of the said James Breeding and his heirs, and the said Henry Harding & Rebeckah, his wife, for themselves, and their heirs the aforesaid parcel of land with the appurtenances to the said James Breeding and his heirs, against all persons whatsoever will forever warrant & defend. In witness the said Henry Harding & Rebeckah have hereunto ascribed their names, and affixed their seals the day and year above written.
