John Louther Deed, 1784 Page 1 Benjamin Harrison, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom these presents shall come, greetings; Know that by virtue of part of a certificate in right of settlement given by the commissioners for adjusting the titles to unpatented land in the districts of Washington & Montgomery Counties, and in consideration of the amount composed of two pounds Sterling paid by John Louther, into the Treasury of this Commonwealth, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John Louther assigned of Francis Allison, who was assigned of Thomas Dunn; A certain tract or parcel of land, containing three hundred and eighty acres, by survey, bearing date the nineteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred & eighty-three, lying and being in the County of Montgomery on Macks Run, a branch of New River, and bounded as followeth; to wit, beginning at a large White Oak, and runing thence South seventy-five degrees, East one hundred poles to a White Oak & Hickory sapling thence South 48 degrees, East 112 poles to a large Black Oak, East 46 poles to two White Oaks, North 55 degrees, East 40 poles.....on the bank of a branch North 15 degrees, East six poles crossing a branch to a Hickory & Buckeye corner to Newel's land, North 35 degrees, East 30 poles crossing a branch to a large White Oak thence leaving said line North 42 degrees, West 86 poles to three White Page 2 Oak saplings, North 10 degrees, West 100 poles to a large White Oak, North 50 degrees, East 144 poles to a large White Oak and Chestnut, North 65 degrees, West 50 poles to a double and single Chestnut, North 40 degrees, West (or South 40 West) 150 poles crossing a branch to a Black Oak and White Oak sapling, North 55 degrees, West 58 poles, crossing a branch to a Black Buckeye, White Buckeye & Hickory, North 30 degrees, West 140 poles crossing two branches to a large White Buckeye, South about 70 degrees West 170 poles, crossing three branches to 2 gums and White Oak saplings, South 27 degrees, East 146 poles to 3 Black Oaks on the top of a hill, South 13 degrees, East 22 poles to a Pecan & Walnut in his patent line and with the same South 20 degrees, East 62 poles, to a stake in a field, thence South 49 degrees, West 60 poles to the beginning; with its appurtenances therein(??)....to the said John Louther and his, therein(??), ....in witness whereof the said B.
