Obituary of Archie David Brown, 1957 - Montgomery Co. VA Archie David Brown Archie David Brown, 88, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L.C. Blevins, in Ream, near Gary, W. Va., Saturday. He was a resident of Christiansburg until 1918, at which time he went to Gary and was a retired car repairman for the US Steel Company. He returned to Christiansburg until 1927 and then made Gary his future home until the time of his death. He was a member of Filbert Methodist Church near Gary. He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. H.C. Chumbley, Mrs. J.T. Akers and Mrs. Eulia B. Dixon, Christiansburg; Mrs. L.C. Blevins and Mrs. W.J. Smith, Gary, W. Va.; and Mrs. Jeff Lockheart, Iaeger, W. Va. Two sons, Harry H. Brown, Princeton, W. Va., and James R. Brown, New York City. Also 30 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Filbert Methodist Church Tuesday at 9 a.m. and interment followed in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. (Submitter Note: The above is my Great-Grandfather's obituary. I have the original newspaper clipping, which is very fragile, and I typed it exactly the way it appeared. Note that there is no date of death mentioned and I do not know the newspaper or date of issue (It may have been the Roanoke Times). However, Grampa Archie was born in August of 1869 and I have photographs of him celebrating his 88th birthday in August of 1957 and another photo of him in September 1957, so that would make his date of death in 1957 some time between September and December.)
