Will of Asa Hall, Jr., 1863 - Montgomery Co. VA Montgomery County Will Book 9 Page 446 I, Asa Hall, of Montgomery County and, State of Virginia, being of sound mind and disposing memory, do make this my last will and testament. After my just debts and funeral expenses are paid, I give and bequeath to my wife Martha. all the gold, and silver I have on hand and also all my household furniture, to have and hold the same for her use and benefit during her life. I give and bequeath to my wife Martha and all my living children $500 Dollars in State Bank (---?---) to be equally divided among them. I desire that my negro woman Scyni- tha may be set free after my death, and that of my wife, to remain under the care of such of my children as she may choose to live with. I give and bequeath to the heirs of my daughter Malinda, Dec'd 700 Dollars to be equally devided as follows:To Reason leaving Three Hundred Dollars, to Asa leaving Three Hundred Dollars, to the chilld of Jane Jones dec'd late Jane Covey, I give One Hundred Dollars to be paid to them out of the funds that may come into the hands of my executor after my death. I give and bequeath to the heirs of my son Allen Hall dec. Nine Hundred Dollars to be placed in the hands of their mother, Mary Ann Hall, for their benefit, to be divided equally between them, i desire her to have Three Hun- dred and Eighty-Eight Dollars that I now have on hand as soon as she will qualify as Guardian for the said children. After my executor shall have paid the within named legasays, I desire the remainder of my lands be placed in the hands of my wife Martha to be disposed of as she may think proper. I desire that Reed C. Hall have the remain- der of the land belonging to me, lying in the Roanoke Hills, adjoining the lands of the White Sulfer Springs and others, at the rate of 4 Dollars per acre to be paid over to my wife as part of my lands to be disposed of by her as she may think proper. Lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint Jonathan C. Hall my executor to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other or former wills. This testament which I have herewith affixed my hand and sign this 15th day of April 1863. Hall, who made oath, and together with Jonathan C. Hall, his security, entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of Six thousand Dollars, conditioned as the law directs; a certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of Ad- ministration on the estate of the said Asa Hall, dec'd in due form with the will amended.
