Will of Charles D. Lucas, 1885 I, Chas D. Lucas, considering the uncertainty of the mortal life and being of sound mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Nancy Lucas until my youngest child shall have attained his majority, the farm on which I now reside, containing two hundred and twenty-two acres to be managed and so operated that a good and comfortable living may be secured for herself and my three youngest children, Annie, Clara and Davis. Second. I further desire that when my youngest child Davis K. shall have attained his majority, as above mentioned, the said tract of land is to be sold by my executor to the highest bidder, subject to the maintenance of my beloved wife or her right of dower in same and the proceeds thereof, to be distributed equally among all my heirs. Third. I further desire that my beloved wife shall have the privilege of taking any part or all of my household and kitchen furniture at its appraised value which appraisement shall be made by persons appointed by the Court for the purpose. Fourth. I further desire that my present crops of whatever description shall not be appraised, but to be kept by my wife for the use and behalf of herself and my three youngest children, Annie, Clara and Davis K. Fifth. I further desire that all of my horses, cattle, sheep and hogs shall be appraised at my death and after my beloved wife shall have selected and taken at their apprised value such of my horses as may be suitable to carry on her farming operations and such milk cows and hogs as may be absolutely necessary for her use, the residue to be publicly sold by my Executor and the proceeds divided according to provision by and of this will. Sixth. I further desire that a sum of money amounting to three hundred dollars, advanced to Edward Baker and to which I hold his bonds be taken into the estimate to make the heirs of said Baker by his first wife, Catherine, equal in the distribution of my estate hereby devised. Lastly. I desire that my personal property of whatever description, after payment of my funeral expenses and .............................................................................. ............................................ And appoint my son Rice M. Lucas Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills made by me.
