Will of John Lucas, 1888 I, John Lucas of Montgomery Co., Virginia do make this my last will and testament. 1st- To my beloved wife I give and bequeath my household and kitchen furniture during her life, and the right to a home in my dwelling house and a plentiful support from my son James C. which I hereby charge upon the land hereinafter devised to him. 2nd- To my daughters Henrietta Missouri and Louisiana- I devise "The Cromer Place" which I acquired by deed from A.J. Lucas & wife dated November 6, 1855, they to pay to my daughter Virginia Scott, three years after my death, the sum of five hundred dollars which I charge upon the land, which land is in Montgomery County, Va. 3rd- To my daughter Virginia Scott, I bequeath the five hundred dollars mentioned in 2nd clause which with a tract of land I have heretofore conveyed to her and the share of personal property hereinafter bequeathed to her is in full her share. 4th- To my son James C., I devise my home place consisting of four parcels of land on Meadow Creek & waters thereof in, said land once known as the Samuel Lucass place containing 100 acres, one known as the Anderson Howard tract containing about 53 and 3/10 acres, one known as the Adams tract containing a little over 90 & 3/4 acres conveyed to me by Sarah Adams & David Douthat & wife- and one parcel 30 acres conveyed to me by Hamilton W. Shields, Commissioner by deed dated October 25, 1848 (the several quantities are stated according to estimates. My intention is to give the whole of the tracts- whether they contain more or less land than is stated) he to take said land subject to the right of home and plentiful support provided for my wife during her life by the first clause of this will and is to pay my son John Brown Lucas two thousand dollars in three equal annual payments, without interest- the first to become due one year after my death, which sum of $2000 and support for my wife I charge upon said lands. 5th- To my son John Brown Lucas I bequeath the two thousand dollars mentioned in the last clause which with the interest in the personal estate hereinafter bequeathed to him is in full his share. 6th- I will that after the payment of my just debts, funeral expenses and costs of administration my personal estate including the remainder in what is given my wife for life be divided equally among my five children hereinbefore named. 7th- I nominate and appoint James C.
