All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Nansemond County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records Humphry SCOWNE, patent, 100 acres, 16 Sep 1636; Humphry SCOWNE, patent, 200 acres, 16 Sep 1636 To all to whome these p'sents shall come I Cap.t John West Esq.r Humphry Govern.r &c send &c Now Know yee that I the said Cap.t John Scowne West Esq.r doe w.th the consent of the Councell of State accordingly 100 give and grannt Unto Humphry Scowne one hundred acres of [page break] [p.] (384) of land Scituate lying and being in the Countie of Warrisquick on the South Side of Nanzamund river beeing betweene the land of Joseph Sammond and John Geary runing South East into the woods North Exm:d west Upon the river South west and North East along the banck of the Smaine river aforesaid land being a thickett The Said one hundred acres of land being due Unto him the said Humphry Scowne as followeth (Vizt) fiftie acres for his owne p'sonall adventure and fiftie acres for the transportac'on of one Servant named William Edwards into this Colony To have and to hold &c dated the 16.th of September 1636 Ut in al˙s Humphry Scowne W.m Edwards ______ ŻŻŻŻŻ To all to whome these p'sents shall come I Cap.t John Humphry West Esq.r Govern.r &c send &c Now Know Scowne yee that I the said Cap.t John West Esq.r doe w.th the consent 200 of the Councell of State accordingly give and grannt Unto Humphry Scowne twoe hundred acres of land Scituate lying and being in the Countie of Warrisquick on the South Side of Nanzamund river lying betweene the land of M.r Richard Bennett and Exm:d the land of Francis Hoofe next adjoyning to the land of M.r Richard Bennett and extendeth it selfe North towards the land of Francis Hoofe runing West into the woods East Upon the river North and South along the Creeke Side The Said twoe hundred acres of land being due Unto him the said Humphry Scowne by and for the transportac'on at his owne p'per costs and charges of fower p'sons into this Colony whose names are in the records menc'oned Under this pattent To have and to hold &c dated the 16.th of September 1636 Ut in al˙s ŻŻŻŻ [headrights not listed] ______ ŻŻŻŻŻ [While Isle of Wight (1634-37, Warrasquyoke {spelled variously}) and Nansemond (1636-37, part of New Norfolk) Cos. adjusted their boundary in 1769, I am not aware of Isle of Wight Co. ever having extended below the mouth of the main Nansemond River, so it seems this should have been described as being in Elizabeth City Co., or after that county was split sometime in 1636, New Norfolke Co.
