At stated above, this tract had been granted 17 Oct 1636 (ibid, p. 396) by Gov. John West. It is unclear why this duplicate patent was issued, but the legitimacy of West's tenure may have been in question. West was elected by the Council as successor to Sir John Harvey, and Harvey was reinstated by the Crown in 1637.
