Nansemond County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records 
     Francis MAULDIN, patent, 100 acres, 22 May 1642 

                To all to whome these p'sents shall come I S.r William 
Francis Mauldin Berkeley  K.t Govern.r &.c whereas &.c Now Know yee 
     100     that the Said I S.r William Berkeley K.t doe w.th the consent 
             of the Councell of State accordingly give and grannt 
             Unto Francis Mauldin one hundred acres of Land 
             Scituate lying and being in the Countie of Upper Norforke 
             Upon the Westerne branch of Nansamund river begining 
    Exm:d    at a fresh runne adjoyning on a p'cell of Land of 
             Thomas Emerson and running East South East for 
             length and South South west for breadth which land 
             &.c The Said one hundred acres of Land being due Unto 
             him the Said Francis Mauldin by and for the transpor= 
             tac'on of twoe SerVants into this Colony whose names are 
             in the records menc'oned Under this pattent  To have 
             and to hold &.c To bee held &.c Yeilding and paying 
             Unto o.r Said Soveraigne Lord the King his heires and 
             Successo.rs for every fiftie acres of Land herein by these
