     George CHOWNING, patent, 600 acres, 25 Aug 1642

               To all &.c Whereas &c Now Know yee that I the 
               Said S.r William Berkeley K.t doe w.th the consent 
               of the Councell of State accordingly give and grannt 
Georg Chowning Unto Georg Chowning Six hundred acres of Land 
     600       lying in the Countie of Upper New Norfolke upon 
               the Westerne branch of Nansamund river begining 
               at a pine marked w.th twoe notches on each side and 
               runing North and by East for length to a marked 
               white oake along the miles end of a p'te of Land of 
               M.r Francis Mauldens and for breadth West and 
               by North from the aforemenc'oned pine tree three 
               hundred poles by the Maine branch Side to a red oake 
               marked w.th Six notches a peece on twoe Sides and 
               twoe notches on the other twoe Sides runing againe for 
               length North and by East by another Small oake marked 
               w.th twelve notches and adjoyning to the West and by 
    Exmd:      North of a p'cell of Land of Thomas Brices The 
               Said Six hundred acres of land being due Unto the Said 
               Georg Chowning (Vizt) five hundred acres p'te thereof 
               by Assignment from Georg Ludlowe Esq.r of a pattent 
               grannted to the Said Ludlow for the Said five hundred 
               acres And one hundred acres the remainder by and for 
               the transportac'on of twoe p'sons into this Colony whose 
               names are in the records menc'oned  Under this pattent 
               To have and to hold &.c To bee held &.c Yeilding and 
               paying &.c which paym.t is to bee made (Vizt) for five 
               hundred acres w.th in Seaven yeares after the date of the 
               Said M.r Ludlows pattent being the last of August 1638 
               and the other one hundred acres Seaven yeares after 
               the date of these p'sents and not before  Given &.c this
