Nansemond County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records 
     John GRIVETT, patent, 150 acres, 10 Oct 1642 

               To all &.c Send &.c Whereas &c Now Know yee that I the 
               Said S.r William Berkeley K.t doe w.th the consent 
 John Grivett  of the Councell of State accordingly give and grannt 
    150        Unto John Grivett his heires and assignes for ever 
               one hundred and fiftie acres of land Scituate or being 
               in the Upper Norfolke and lying Upon the South west 
               Side of the North west branch of Nanzamund river and 
               begining at a marked red oake standing on a point by 
    Exmd:      the maine branch Side and runneth South 
               twoe hundred and fortie pole by and adjoyning on the 
               Land of William Story Unto a marked red oake and 
               Soe South East thirty pole Unto a marked pokekery and 
               soe East by North and three degrees Northerly twoe 
               hundred Eightie twoe pole by and adjoyning on the land 
               of Thomas             Unto a marked red oake standing 
               on the Side of a point nigh Unto the maine branch Side 
               and soe runing Up by the maine branch Side Unto the 
               first menc'oned marked tree including the Said quantity 
               of Land The Said one hundred and fiftie acres of land 
               being due Unto the Said John Grivett by Assignment from 
               Thomas Hill and due Unto the Said Thomas Hill by 
               and for the transportac'on of three p'sons into this Colony 
               whose names are in the records menc'oned Under this 
               pattent To have and to hold &.c To bee held &.c Yeilding 
               and paying &.c which paym.t is to bee made Seaven yeares 
               after the date of these p'sents and not before &.c dated the 
               tenth of October 1642  Ut in alÿs
