WHEREAS Theophilus Pugh, of [Nansemond?] County, Merchant, for the
Security of a large Sum of Money, due from him to Robert Cary, of the
City of London, Merchant, did mortgage unto the Said Robert Cary, the
following Lands, Slave, and VeSSels; that is to Say,
In North Carolina.....

In Virginia,
200[?] Acres in NanSemond County, purchaSed of Robert Pugh[?],
230 Acres in the Same County, purchaSed of John Murphy,
300 Acres in the Same County, purchaSed of Thomas Slaughter,
300 Acres in Tucker's Neck, in the Same County, purchased of Wil'lam[?]
Pugh, and John Murphy.....
