Death came at his country home, near Franklin. He had been losing strength some weeks. The funeral services will take place at 2:30 o'clock to-morrow afternoon from the Episcopal Church at Franklin. The deceased leaves an estate worth $100,000. He had given away many thousands of dollars. He leaves a wife and six children, one of whom, Robert A. There are others. JOHN C. THOMAS. Mr. J. C. Thomas died this afternoon at his home, near Isle of Wight Court- house, aged 74 years. He leaves a number of children and other relatives in several Virginia cities. STORM AFTERMATH. Last night's storm made the country near the county bridge look like Lake Kilby. The tide was the highest for many months. All over town there were prostrate poles and fences. Farmers report many peanut stacks blown down. Gaskins' Wharf, on Nansemond river, was washed away. It will take $1,500 to replace it. Lee's Wharf was damaged to the extent of $200. Schooner W. S. Rawley was run ashore at Nix's Wharf; damage trifling. A sloop whose name I didn't get was run aground at Houseman's. Numerous smaller craft had hard luck. LIQUOR FIGHT BREWING. A deal has been consumated which will bring about another liquor fight at Holland. They need a liquor contest over there every few months to have something to talk about. The last fight proposed didn't add any more bar- rooms. The next applicant will likely be D. J. Odom. Odom has bought a lot from Tiberius Gracchus Jones, whose location is more removed from dwellings than the last site applied for. There will likely be counsel on both sides. OCTOBER MATRIMONY.
