One of the oldest frame residences on upper Main street is being razed. It is the old home of the Boothes, who once lived in Suffolk, Joseph Boothe long years ago, prior to 1885, being a partner in the firm of Boothe and Baker, which firm conducted a large drygoods house on Washington Square. Mrs. Mary Boothe Walker, now a resident of Portsmouth, is the owner of the building, and it is understood the material is to be shipped to Portsmouth for use in a building to be erected in that city. While the building is one of the old ones here, the material contains much heart timber, and is in splendid state of preservation. The present building is probably nearly a hundred years old, and is situated at number 206 North Main street. After Mr. Boothe's death the house was occupied by his former partner, James R. Parker. The house was erected by Thomas Sheppard [sic; Shepherd] and family, Mr. Sheppard being the grandfather of Mrs. Burwell Riddick, Sr. [sic; II].
