R.H. Forrester, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Mary Garratt [sic; Jarratt] Applewhite of Southampton County, she had lived in Suffolk for the past 60 years. She was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church, active in civic and club life of the community and a charter member of the Nansemond River Garden Club. Survivors include two brothers, George P. Applewhite, Jarratt, Virginia, and Archie A. Applewhite of Newport News; three sisters, Miss Mary W. Applewhite and Mrs. C.E. Hargrave, both of Suffolk, and Mrs. James Thomas Marshall of Martinsville, Virginia; several nieces and nephews. ****************************************************************************** MISS BESSIE APPLEWHITE Miss Bessie Applewhite, 81, died at 5 o'clock Sunday morning, July 16, at her home on Chestnut Street, Suffolk. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Mary Ann Jarratt Applewhite of Southampton County, and had lived in Suffolk for the past 60 years. She was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church and a charter member of the Nansemond River Garden Club, and was active in various other organization of the community. Surviving her are two brothers, George P. Applewhite of Jarratt and Archie A. Applewhite of Newport News; and three sisters, Miss Mary W. Applewhite of Suffolk, Mrs. James Thomas Marshall of Martinsville, and Mrs. C.E. Hargrave of Suffolk. Funeral services for Miss Applewhite were conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at Main Street Methodist Church by the pastor, Rev. R.H. Forrester. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk.
