SOPHIA AVERA Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia Aloise Avera were held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Cypress Chapel Christian Church, conducted by Rev. R.E. Brittle, assisted by the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield and the Rev. Dr. W.W. Staley. Members of the church choir rendered the hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross," "Sometime We'll Understand," and "That Beautiful City." There were many handsome floral tributes, the casket being covered with a blanket of roses and Easter lilies. Active pallbearers: C.B. Benton, B.T. Benton, C.W. Benton, M.H. Williams, J.S. Williams, W.F. Pierce, C.W. Austin, J.C. Taylor. Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Her parents, Frank Andreas & Mary Elizabeth (ROUNTREE) GLAUS, and her brother Joe are also buried there. Frank was a native of Germany. D.Cert. 19936 (Cradock #19) gives Sophia Eloise. Sophia & James m. 25 Oct 1930 in Portsmouth. (Nan.Co. #214) James (1897 - 1949) remarried, and is buried in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.
