Austin were held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the residence, 141 Charles street, conducted by the Rev. H.J. Goodwin, assisted by the Rev. H.S. Hardcastle. A quartet composed of Miss Sara Howard, Mrs. W.A. Hart, Alwyn Howell and J.N. Alexander, accompanied by Alton Howell, rendered the hymns, "The Rugged Cross" and "There Will Be No Parting There." Mrs. W.A. Hart and Alton Howell sang "No Night There" as a duet. There were many beautiful floral designs. Active pallbearers were A.T. Austin, H.W. Austin, F.A. Jones, R.T. Piland, O.C. Piland, P.O. Nansemond Co.; d. of Meningitis, having recovered from a fall from an automobile about 2 weeks previously, injuring his lower spine. The obit of his father William Archie AUSTIN (1857 - 1923) appeared in the "Virginian-Pilot," Jan. 21, 1923. His widowed mother (1869 - 1938) 2m. widower Frank Walter CROSS (1848-1932), 4 Dec 1901, in Suffolk. Frank is buried in Block D, Lot 71. Marvin m. Mary Elizabeth PILAND, daughter of Robert Starkey & "Mollie" Mary Frances (DUKE) PILAND, 23 Dec 1922 in Suffolk. (Suffolk M.Reg. {BVS copy} p. 3 #31) Ancestry.com VA M.Regs. 1853 - 1935 gives his mother as Otelia SESSOMS - surname transposed from the entry above. Mary's parents are buried in Block M, Lot 5.
