Suffolk, Va., Dec. 8. - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Artman, who had been in failing health for several years, died at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The deceased was the wife of Mr. H.T. Artman, one of our oldest and best-known business men, and mother of T.W. Artman, one of the commissioners of revenue of Nansemond county. Mrs. Artman had been a resident of Suffolk for over a quarter of a century, and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. ****************************************************************************** SUFFOLK NEWS GATHERINGS. Mrs. Mary Artman, wife of our townsman, H. Artman, and mother of H.T. Artman and Mrs. E. Tatterson, died at the family residence in Franklin street on Thursday. Mrs. Artman has been a sufferer for many years and bore her afflictions with resignation and fortitude, looking to the rest which remaineth for the people of God. Her funeral was held yesterday at 8 o'clock at the family residence, the Presbyterian minister officiating. Birthplace &c. from Nansemond Co. D.Reg. 1896 #2, which gives daughter of George & Mary BLAINE. The family appeared in the 1860 Census in Portsmouth and in the 1870 Census in Suffolk. Her husband was a Confederate veteran. We show him as having served as a private in Co. A, 3rd VA Cavalry; however, two of his obits state he.served in the Ordnance Dept.
