All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Herbert Babb Killed; Car Hits Parked Truck A Cypress Chapel man was fatally injured Wednesday night when his truck collided with a parked truck 10 miles south of Suffolk on Route 13. The man was Herbert Babb, 47, a Nansemond County farmer. Babb's truck was apparently headed north when it crashed into the rear of a truck which had ran out of gasoline and partially pulled off the road. Police reported that the parked truck was without lights or flares at the time of the collision, which was set at about 9 p.m. Another man, James Parker, was injured and was taken to Obici Memorial Hospital. The attending physician could not be reached to learn of the extent of Parker's injuries, but his condition Thursday morning was described as "fair." Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Cypress Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. Ellis Clark, pastor, and the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial will be in Cypress Chapel Church Cemetery. The body will be taken from the I.O. Hill Funeral Home to the church at 2:30 p.m. to lie in state one hour prior to the funeral services. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Herbert Babb near Nurney, Va. He was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and the Men's Bible Class of the church. He was a son of the late George A. Babb and Nomie Ashley Babb of Nansemond County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Byrd Babb of the home; two sons, Charles E. Babb of Route 1, Suffolk, and Clarence Lee Babb of Suffolk; three sisters, Mrs. J.W. Powell and Mrs. Josh Gardner, both of Nansemond County; and Mrs. Cornelia Moore of Portsmouth; four brothers, Oscar Babb, Herman Babb, and L.L. Babb of Nansemond County, and Lewis Babb of Suffolk; a grandson, Clarence Lee Babb Jr., of Suffolk, and several nieces and nephews.
