All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE WASHINGTON BOYKIN SUFFOLK - George Washington Boykin, 87, retired Benthall Machine Co. employe, died Wednesday 1:46 p.m. at Obici Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Boykin was a son of the late John William and Mrs. Martha King Boykin of Isle of Wight County and a member of Main Street Methodist Church. He had been employed by Benthall about 35 years before his retirement last February. In earlier years, he worked for Ramsey Packing Co. and the Suffolk Lumber Co. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kate T. Boykin; four daughters, Mrs. George R. Eley; Mrs. Carl Howell and Mrs. L. Dewey Blanchard, all of Suffolk, and Mrs. Thomas B. Petty of Bayside; three sons, Earl W. Boykin, Claude J. Boykin and Archie W. Boykin, all of Suffolk; eight step-children, Mrs. Kenneth Wray of Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. T.N. Fisher of Newport News; Mrs. Thelma Carr of Washington; Mrs. E.G. Smith of Portsmouth; Mrs. Emmett Stancell, Pete Britton and Mrs. Robert Ward, all of Suffolk, and Roy L. Britton of Salem, Mass.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home by the Rev. George S. Lightner, pastor of Main Street Church and the Rev. John C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** George W. Boykins [sic*] Buried Here Friday Funeral services for George Washington Boykin were conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home by the Rev. George S. Lightner, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The casket was covered with a pall of red and white carnations. Pallbearers were Vernon Ford, Peeble O. Piland, Thomas Cowley, W.T. Myrick, M.J. Powell, J. Will Jordan, Dr. E.C. Joyner and Harvard R. Birdsong.
