FUNERAL DIRECTOR DIES AT 60 SUFFOLK - Robert Newton Baker, Jr., 60, partner and manager of the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home here for 27 years, died Thursday at his home 509 W. Washington St. He was a past president of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association and had been secretary-treasurer of the Tidewater group for 20 years. A Suffolk native, he was the son of the late Robert N. Baker Sr. and Mrs. Ethel Ames Baker who survivors him. He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Allie Oliver Baker. Mr. Baker was a graduate of Suffolk High School and Virginia Military Institure with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church and a past lay member of the annual Virginia Methodist Conference. He was a member of the Virginia Conference Board of Missions and a past steward of the Portsmouth Methodist District. Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Allie Baker Brueggeman of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Roberta Baker Powell of Suffolk and Mrs. Lynn Baker Baines of Syracuse, N.Y. , and a son, Robert Newton Baker, III of Suffolk. A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Main Street Methodist Church. The body will be taken from Baker Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
