SALLIE BAKER Suffolk, Va., March 4. - Mrs. Sallie Baker died at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at her residence at Nurney, Va. She was 67 years of age. The deceased is survived by two daughters and a son [sic; three daughters*: Mrs. Pauline Holland, Mrs. Clara Byrd and Gus Baker, and three sisters: Mrs. Adolphus Duke, Mrs. [sic; Miss] Julia Skinner and Mrs. M.J. (BOOTHE) SKINNER. Birthdate from the 1900 Census - Holy Neck Dist., Nansemond Co. - which gives widowed, 3 of 4 children surviving. She 1m. James Hillory SPIVEY, son of Philip & Sabra, 17 Dec 1868 in Nansemond Co.; his names appears variously Hillory, Hilory, Hilery. She appears in the 1880 Census - Cypress Dist., Nansemond Co. - age 36 (b. ca. 1844) widowed, with 3 daughters. Her second husband was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. K, 24th VA Cavalry. They m. 30 Oct 1883; the Nansemond Co. M.Reg. (#101) gives age 44 (b. ca. 1839). Her eldest daughter Sarah Augustus "Gus" SPIVEY m. Robert Lee BAKER, son of John J. BAKER & his first wife Judith Maria HOLLAND. They are buried in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. Her middle daughter Pauline SPIVEY m. John W. HOLLAND, son of Mills E. & Mary L. HOLLAND. They are buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Newport News. Her youngest daughter Clara Hillary (SPIVEY; Mrs. Feddie O.) BYRD is buried in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.
