Main St., was under intensive care at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital Friday morning with a stab wound in the abdomen. Butler told Suffolk police that he was standing on the corner of Franklin St. and E. Washington St. about 5 p.m. Thursday when a man walked up and asked him for a dime. When he refused, Butler said the man grabbed him by the wrist. Butler said he tried to get away, and the man, whom Butler said was a stranger, stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife. The assailant was described as being about 5 ft. 7 and weighing about 120 lb. ****************************************************************************** William H. Butler William H. (Billie) Butler, 73, of 312½ N. Main St, died Monday in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital of stab wounds suffered Thursday. A retired painter, Butler was the son of the late Julius R. and Alice Copeland Butler of Nansemond. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Doris B. Potter of Sunbury, N.C., and Mrs. Lessie B. Taylor of Chesapeake. A funeral service will be conducted at I.O. Hill and Co. Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Ralph W. Logan. Burial will be in the Copeland family cemetery, Buckhorn.
