Butler, 84, an old and prominently connected citizen of this city, this morning was found dead in bed by his son, J. Carlton Butler, with whom he made his home. Mr. Butler was the son of the late Edward Butler, and was a native of Nansemond County. He is survived by J. Carlton Butler, his only son; two brothers Julius Butler, of Suffolk, and William Butler, of Buckhorn; three granddaughters, Mrs. John Wood Faison of Winton, N.C. and Misses Kathleen and Janice Butler, of Suffolk, and a grandson, J. Carlton Butler, Jr., of Suffolk. He was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church for 72 years. For 20 years, Mr. Butler was treasurer of Western Branch Sunday School. Funeral services will be held at the home, 121 Wellons Street, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, by the Rev. Sidney Cobb, pastor of Western Branch Church, and the Rev. Dr. H.J. Goodwin, of the First Baptist Church of Suffolk, and Dr. W.W. Staley. The body will be taken to Western Branch Baptist Church for burial. Active pallbearers will be Caleb Baines, J.S. Davis, W.M. Aston, J.P. Dalton, E.A. Brothers, Jasper Oliver, J.F. Williams and R.G. Eley. Honorary, A.J. Powell, J.T. Dalton, R.L. Daughtrey, T.J. Dunstan, William H. Eley, T.A. Persons, J.H. Powell, A.C.
