Mr. Butler was a former member of the English faculty at the University of Virginia. He received his bachelor of arts from the University in 1923 and returned there in 1931 to take a master’s degree. He is survived by his wife the former Miss Wilhelmina Parker, of Charlottesville, and by two children, Charles Ayres and Nora. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. ****************************************************************************** JAMES BUTLER DIES WHILE ON CRUISE Suffolk, May 6, - James Madison Butler, well known citizen of Suffolk and for a number of years member of the firm of J.M. Butler and Sons, died suddenly on Monday, shortly after he had boarded a boat to return from a cruise to Bermuda, according to a message received by members of his family from the consul at Bermuda. Mr. and Mrs. Butler were on a cruise for a month and were supposed to have left Bermuda on Monday. Shortly after the boat left the dock, the message said he died suddenly. No particulars were given. The body is being sent to Suffolk and Mrs. Butler is flying home. She is expected to reach New York today or tomorrow. Mr. Butler was a son of the late John M. Butler and Nora Butler, of Suffolk. Surviving in addition to his wife, are two children, Nora and Charles Butler, both of Suffolk, and a number of cousins living in this city. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
