SARAH JANE WILLIAMS BUTLER 

Funeral Service For Mrs. Butler Tomorrow 

  Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane Butler, widow of James M. Butler, will 
be conducted Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence on Broad Street, 
with Dr. W.W. Staley officiating.  Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

  Mrs. Butler was one of Suffolk's most prominent women, and was a native of 
King and Queen county, a daughter of the late Dyalle [sic; Diale*] Williams, 
and Mrs. Sarah Jane Hart Williams.  Her girlhood days were spent in 
Chesterfield county.  She has been a resident of Suffolk since the Civil War. 

  She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Emily J. Crocker of this city and 
Mrs. George H. Ballance of Portsmouth, and two sons, Harvey M. and Frank E. 
Butler, both of this city.  Her grandchildren will act as pallbearers.

D.Cert. 15790 (Suffolk #215) gives b. VA, daughter of Dealie & Susan Jane 
   (HART) WILLIAMS; the informant was her daughter "Emmie" CROCKER. 

Her husband was a Confederate, having served as a private in Co. D, 16th VA 
   Infantry, until he was detailed to the Quartermaster Dept.  A notice of

Ancestry.com VA "Select Marriages 1785-1940" gives b. Surry Co., daughter of 
    Diale & Susan Williams; m. 10 May 1866 in Chesterfield Co.  However, the 
    union does not appear in the Chesterfield Co. Marriage Register for 1866.
