M. Funeral services for Miss Lucy Mae Bailey, well-known retired school teacher who taught three generations of school children and who died yesterday morning at her niece's residence, will be held this afternoon at the Main Street Methodist Church at 4 p.m. with Dr. A.L. Franklin conducting the services. Before her death, the grand old lady, loved by all who knew her, was still active. She was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church and a member of the church's choir, teacher of the Marvin Sunday School Class, and a member of the Woman's Society for Christian Service. She was a charter member of the Sans Souci Literary Club. The teachers council will honor Miss Mae Bailey by turning out in a body at the funeral today. She began teaching in 1890 and taught in the Suffolk Public Schools up to June 1937. Active pallbearers will be: Ed Simmons, Peppel Burton, Dr. Parker Cross, Theodore Myrick, Dr. T. Wood Campbell, William M. Birdsong, Dr. W.G. Gobbel and John N. Shepherd, Jr. Members of the family will act as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be made in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. D.Cert. 10952 Her half-brothers James M. Jr. & Robert S. BAILEY both served in Co. B, 16th VA Infantry, CSA. Robert lost an eye during his service. James was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and was mortally wounded at the Crater. Their sister Elizabeth H. BAILEY married Harvey B. MORENUS, a Federal veteran of the 3rd NY Cavalry.
