Bowles, died at a local hospital here yesterday after a long illness. Mrs. Bowles was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Crowder of Petersburg. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Jean Bowles and Miss Mary Anne Bowles of Suffolk; six sons, R.M. Bowles, Jr., of Boston; William J., James T. and Charles A. Bowles of Suffolk; Frank F. and John S. Bowles of New York City; three sisters, Mrs. E.T. Blankenship of Wilson, Va., Mrs. Howard Perkinson and Mrs. Willie Pillar of Petersburg; two brothers, L.L. Crowder of Richmond, and John Crowder of Petersburg, and three grandchildren. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements. Find a Grave Memorial #133773507 &c. gives her husband as Richard Moore BOWLES; however, his WW-I draft card gives Richard Montgomery BOWLES, Jr. Her parents, James Peterson "Peter" & Julia Etta (ANDERSON) CROWDER, are buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. Her father was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. A, 44th Battalion VA Infantry. Her father-in-law Richard Moore BOWLES also was a Confederate veteran, having served in the 1st NC Artillery.
