The "tide of time" bears us all toward the eternal shore, and the grave as a hungry monster opens its mouth to receive and devour these mortal bodies. When passing through some dangerous country, or dark cavern, one feels safe when following a guide, who has been over the way before. Jesus has been down into the grave and He can guide us in perfect safety and says: "Follow me." Without Him death would be a dungeon of horrors; with Him it is going home. On September 1st, I buried Mrs. J.W. Blanchard, who had been confined to a bed of sickness for fifteen months by paralysis. She was the half-sister of Rev. L.L. Lassiter, was the mother of a large family, a member of Damascus Christian church, Gates County, N.C., and noted for great devotion to her family, deep piety, and patience. Her fortitude under affliction was beautiful and her hope in Christ was stronger than death. She was fifty-eight years of age and lingered in the borderland, sustained by bright hope in Christ.
