ESSIE ANNIS JOYNER BLAND 

   WINDSOR - Mrs. Essie Joyner Bland, 85, widow of William Edward Bland, died 
Thursday at 4:30 in the home of a daughter, Mrs. W.D. Barrett, in Windsor.

   A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of Matthew and Mrs. 
Dianna Bowden Joyner.

   She was a member of Windsor Baptist Church and its L.P. Deans Bible Class 
and Woman's Missionary Society.

   A retired school teacher, she taught in Isle of Wight County.  She was 
educated at India Herrin's Private School and Farmville State Teacher College.

   Surviving are another daughter, Mrs. C.F.  Barnett of South Boston; two 
sons, William N. Bland of Suffolk; a brother, Paul W. Joyner of Zuni; a 
sister, Mrs. Sallie J. Stephenson of Windsor; six grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren.

   A funeral service was conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in R.W. Baker and Co. 
Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. H. Eugene Arrington of Windsor Christian 
Church.  Burial was at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
