Ballard, died at her home, 232 North Main Street this morning at 8 o’clock after an illness of two weeks. She was the daughter of the late Elisha and Sarah Elizabeth Riddick Norfleet and was born in Nansemond County. She celebrated her 88th birthday on Monday, August 23. Mrs. Ballard was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and the Ladies Benevolent and Social Union of the church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John E. Wirkley, of Oberlin, Ohio, who was at her bedside during her illness; a granddaughter, Mrs. Ralph Wolff, of Traverse City, Mich.; two grandsons, Richard B. Wirkley, of Newark, N.J., and John E. Wirkley, Jr., of Tucson, Ariz.; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, John B. Norfleet, of Suffolk; the following nieces and nephews, Mrs. J.C. West, Jr., Miss Katherine Brothers, and William S. Beamon, of Suffolk; Mrs. Al F. Parker, of San Benito, Texas; Dr. R. Fillmore Norfleet, Jr., of Woodberry Forest, and Henry B. Norfleet and John B. Norfleet, Jr., of Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home by the Rev. John B. Truitt. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Annie Riddick (NORFLEET; Mrs. Walter W.)
