Ballard, aged 78, for many years a prominent merchant at Buckhorn, died at his home there tonight after a long illness. Besides his wife, Mrs. Fannie Ballard, Mr. Ballard is survived by two daughters, Miss Nevira Ballard, of Buckhorn, and Miss Olivet Ballard, of Norfolk; a son, Holland Ballard, of Buckhorn; a granddaughter, Peggy Parker Ballard, of Buckhorn; a sister, Mrs. F.J. Carr, of Suffolk, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ****************************************************************************** BALLARD RITES HOLLAND TODAY Funeral of A. W. Ballard, Well Known Buckhorn Man, to Be Held This Afternoon At Holland Christian Church. Funeral services for Alonzo Woods [sic; Alonza Wood] Ballard, aged 79, who died at his home in Buckhorn late Saturday night, will be conducted at the Holland Christian Church this afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Dr. W.M. Jay and the Rev. Dr. N.G. Newman in charges of the rites. Interment will be made in the Holland Cemetery. Mr. Ballard was active in the commercial and political affairs of Nansemond county for forty years preceding a decline in health about 15 years ago which caused him to retire from active affairs. He was widely known in all sections of Nansemond and adjoining counties. A stroke of paralysis last week was the occasion of his fatal illness. Mr. Ballard is survived by his widow, Mrs. Fannie Ballard; two daughters, Miss Nevira Ballard, of Buckhorn, and Miss Olivet Ballard, of Norfolk; a son, Holland Ballard, of Buckhorn; a granddaughter, Miss Peggy Parker Ballard, of Buckhorn; a sister, Mrs. F.J.
