BALLARD SUCCUMBS TODAY MEMBER OF PROMINENT FAMILY DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS Mrs. Fannie A. Ballard, widow of A.W. Ballard and member of a prominent Nansemond County family, died at a Suffolk hospital at 1:30 a.m. today, following a short illness. Mrs. Ballard was 72 years of age. Surviving Mrs. Ballard are two daughters, Miss Olivette Ballard of Norfolk, and Miss Nevira Ballard of Buckhorn; a son, Holland Ballard, of Buckhorn; a grand-daughter, Miss Peggy P. Ballard, of Buckhorn; and a half-brother Joe E. Holland of Holland. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Holland Christian church. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.M. Jay and the Rev. Dr. N.G. Newman. Burial will be in the Holland Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** MRS. FANNIE BALLARD Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie A. Ballard were held Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Holland Christian church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Keys, the Rev. Jay, Dr. N.G. Newman and the Rev. W.H. Corbitt. Members of the Holland Christian church choir, accompanied by Mrs. Ernest Rawles, sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." A solo, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," was sung by W.W. Darden. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The casket was covered with a pall of Ascension lilies and Calla lilies. Active pallbearers were W.B. McClenny, Lonnie Ballard, Beverly Ballard, W.M. Aston, Willard Daughtrey, S.S. Stallings, Alfred Bowen, and L.P. Brinkley. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Burial was made in the Holland Cemetery.
