BALLARD Death of This Estimable Christian Lady at Her Home Yesterday Morning. MR. SAM'L BARNES AND MRS. IDA BAKER The Raging Elements Could Not Prevent Their Marriage - The Ownership of a Cow Settled - Baptist Deliberations and Baptist Rains - Bryan and Sewall Club Meeting. Suffolk, Va., Sept. 29. - (Special.) - For fifty-six years Mr. Jesse Ballard and Mrs. Sophie A. Ballard occupied marital relations, and dwelt together in peace and harmony - a devoted, faithful couple. But now the latter is dead. The dissolution between the spiritual and material took place this morning at forty-six minutes after midnight at her home on North street. Mrs. Ballard's death was not sudden nor unexpected, but is none the less distressing to her life-partner. She had been feeble for more than a year, but serious illness dates back for less than a month. She suffered from no specific disease, but death resulted from a general exhaustion of the vital powers. The funeral took place at 4 o'clock this afternoon from her late residence. Rev. W.W. Staley, D.D., and H.H. Butler conducted the services. The remains were laid in Cedar Hill. The deceased leaves four children - Mrs. Margaret A. Holland, of Richmond; Mrs. Mary L. Smith, Mrs. Sarah F. Knight and James E. Ballard, of Suffolk.
