Ballard, a prominent Nansemond County farmer, living near Buckhorn, Va., was suddenly stricken with paralysis while out in his yard Thursday night, and is critically ill. His son, W.N. [sic; W.M.] Ballard of the Hall Drug Company, was summoned home and is still at his father's bedside. Mr. Ballard is a brother of the late John Ballard of the County, who died suddenly at his home in the county about one year ago. ****************************************************************************** PROMINENT FARMER OF NANSEMOND PASSES AWAY Suffolk, Va., Dec. 21 - William H. Ballard, one of the prominent farmers of Nansemond County, died at his home near Buckhorn today at noon, in the 62 year of his age. On Thursday afternoon Mr. Ballard was stricken with paralysis and had grown steadily worse until the end. He is survived by his widow, one son, Marion Ballard of the Hall Drug Company, Suffolk; a sister, Mrs. W.H. Harrell of Portsmouth; two brothers, Frank Ballard of Portsmouth, and M.L. Ballard of Kipling, N.C. He was a member of Holland Christian church. He was a brother of the late John Ballard, who died suddenly just a year ago. The funeral services will be conducted from the residence near Buckhorn, on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. ****************************************************************************** WILLIAM H. Ballard, who died after a brief illness at his home near Buckhorn yesterday at noon, will be conducted from the residence at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, by Rev. H.H. Butler of Suffolk, assisted by Rev. B.F. Block of the Holland Christian church and Rev. J.F. Lawless of the Holland Baptist church. The body was interred in the family cemetery on the old Hodges place. The pallbearers will be Frank Ballard, M.L. Ballard, James L. Ballard, Clarendon Harrell, W.H. Harrell, Roy Hodges, Irving Jenkins, J.A. Vaughan. The honorary pall-bearers have not yet been selected.
