Bowen, a former Suffolk resident died yesterday at 6 p.m. at the Florida State Hospital at Chattahoochee, Fla,, after a long illness. He was 88 years old. He and his brother, the late Alfred D. Bowen, organized and operated the H.J. Bowen and Co. Men's Clothing Store on the Square for about 60 years. He retired in 1947 and has made his home in Florida for about 10 years. He was a son of the late Joseph Bowen and Martha Mason Bowen of Whaleyville, Md. He is survived by a brother, Fred Bowen of Miami, Fla., two nephews, A.D. Bowen Jr. of Suffolk and Charles Bowen Jr. of Lynchburg, and a niece, Mrs. Jane Bowen Traylor of Suffolk. The body will be brought to the Baker Funeral Home.
