MARY CEPHAS PRUDEN BAINES

   SUFFOLK --  Mary Cephas Pruden Baines died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1988, in Louise 
Obici Memorial Hospital.  Born in Suffolk, she retired after 25 years as a 
teacher in Suffolk, Portsmouth and Greensville County Schools.  She was a member 
of Suffolk Christian Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher, a 
member of the West Memorial Bible Class and the Women's Fellowship.  She was 
also a member of the Suffolk Women’s Club and the American Guild of Organists.  
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Mary William Baines of Suffolk, and several 
cousins.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home 
by Dr. Paul Carmany.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.  The family 
requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Nansemond-
Suffolk Volunteer Rescue squad.
