NAOMI RUTH SMITH JOHNSON BAINES

Naomi S. Baines

SUFFOLK -- Naomi Smith Baines, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 17, in Louise Obici 
Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Gates County, NC.  She retired as a clerk at 
Joseph P. Hall Drug Co.  She was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church, 
Portsmouth, and a member of its Ruth Bible Class.  Survivors include one 
daughter, Ruth J. Vann of Suffolk; one step-daughter, Selma B. Lassiter of 
Arrowhead Beach, NC; three sons, Howard G. Johnson Jr and Luther D. Johnson, 
both of Portsmouth and William A. Johnson of Suffolk; four step-sons, W. Floyd 
Baines of Chesapeake, Raleigh Baines of Windsor, J. Irving Baines of Suffolk and 
Jesse Thurman Baines of Newport News; two sisters, Elizabeth Babb and Esther 
Norris, both of Suffolk; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  A 
funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hill Funeral Home by the Revs. 
Darrell Thomsen and Willis Dowling.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.  The 
family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home and at 
other times at 1536 Wilroy Road, Suffolk.  The family requests that expressions 
of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad 
or to Grove Park Baptist Church.
